We were absolutely delighted to welcome a group of 15 teenage girls to Maksaky. They visited us from the language club of the "Protect Her" safe space, an initiative run by the Mena Municipal Center of Social Services.
We gave them a cozy tour of our traditional house, introduced them to the unique Mena dialect, and played custom-designed local dialect board games. We drank tea, chatted, tried our hand at traditional weaving, took plenty of photos, and topped it all off with a beautiful walk down to the Desna River...
Seizing such a wonderful opportunity, we invited the girls to collaborate with us on preserving and documenting the Mena dialect, specifically asking them to join our upcoming workshop on May 30th. (And to give you a little spoiler—three of these bright teenagers jumped on board and actually came!).
